“I promised myself to pick up the camera 1 time, every day for a year.”
The response from a self-made “mom-tographer” who came to our retreat when asked how she got SO DAMN GOOD, SO DAMN QUICKLY.
It reminded me how important taking 1 tiny action every single day can be.
5 simple minutes — every day — can help us start a dream business or find a dream job.
We just have to Commit and DO.
But the Committing and DOING can be the hardest part - right?
Where do I start, WHAT do I do? What if I hate it, what if it’s too hard? What if, what if, what if.
But what if you love it? What if it’s easier than you think? What if it introduces you to new friends and makes you feel like a bad ass?
When I figured out Advertising wasn’t the job for me… I had no clue what to do next.
So I committed to doing “1 brave action” a day.
One day I signed up for an Italian class (following your typical Eat Pray Love high).
The class didn’t directly help me find my job, but indirectly it was 100% the catalyst.
While I didn’t end up being the Italian tour guide like I dreamed — I did meet people who were open, off the wall, dreamers — which turned out to be what I was truly craving.
I wanted to laugh more, feel lighter — and I met people who made me double over, spit out my gnocchi, die laughing — they taught me how to tell a good story, and take myself less seriously.
I wanted to travel more no matter my age, job, or situation — and I met people who did exactly that… with kids, and full time jobs, and all the responsibilities we assume hold us back.
490 dollars, 5 weeks, two 50-year-old gay men, a lovely young couple, and 3 old ladies later… my life was changed.
I booked my first solo flight to Italy, started house boating with the men who would end up pointing me to my husband, and began working with my life & career coach, who then lead me to find "my job."
So go sign up for that Italian class, already - will ya?!
Whatever you do… sign up for something — today.
It may not be the answer to your direct, exact question right now… but it could (and probably will) LEAD you there.
Don’t wait for the perfect time, the perfect answer - just take 1 small step forward, with 1 brave action today.
Because you never know where it might lead you.
xx, Kelsey
