Decision fatigue.
When letting a decision linger in limbo sucks the ever living life outta you.
You know what I mean… that drawn out conversation about where to go to brunch, choosing a movie to watch on Netflix, or deciding what to put on your wedding registry.
So. Damn. Painful.
We think and ponder and digest and analyze….
Almost to the point where we drive ourselves- and others- batty with ‘what if’s’ and ‘but maybe’s.’
And hey, it’s all for solid reasons, right? We don’t want to end up at a brunch place with shitty coffee and a ridiculous wait time- or getting a crappy china set like Aunt Ida’s.
Our decisions are important.
But, here’s the thing ----> the longer we let those decisions linger… the more insecure it makes us.
Just as hesitancy creates insecurity…
Decisions create confidence.
The same e.x.a.c.t. thing happens with our jobs.
Every minute you linger in limbo, wondering (hopefully not aloud in front of co-workers) “Do I like this job? Do I not? Is it right for me? Should I stay or should I go?” it makes your experience in general more painful.
Then come the side effects:
- Your intuition is dulled <<--- Is my gut telling me this is the wrong place for me, or am I just having a bad day??
- You criticize yourself for not knowing the answers to your questions <<--- Forcing yourself to just pour a bottle of wine and ignore, ignore, ignore.
- You feel overwhelmed <<--- Forcing your brain to wave it’s tiny, white flag and just say… I’m fine, whatever, I’ll just live with it.
So let’s change that shall we?
Let’s create a new habit of confident decision making, instead of waiting in the wings, drowning in confusion.
No more shitty coffee at brunch, and no more “so-so” jobs.
Tere’s an easy, but important, first step.
Decide that you are in charge of your own happiness.
No more pointing at your job, your boss, or your company.
Just you and me, baby, we are owning our happiness, our fulfillment, our passion.
It’s our job to know what makes us happy, what fills our soul, what lights us up.
And make sure those things are showing up on our schedule.
So let’s decide to put something on the calendar today that’s going to light us up again, bring back some motivation, inspire us from within.
xx,
Kelsey
